12 SIGNS YOU ARE READY FOR A REBRAND

So if you’ve got a name, and a logo and maybe a website, you might be asking, “Why would I need to rebrand?”

That’s such a great point, and we're glad you asked!

The simple and short answer is that business (like life) is always changing. And it costs a whole lot more to be left behind than to adapt and change with it.

Often we see clients who have businesses that are struggling to either a) get off the ground or b) aren’t reaching their full potential. In both of these cases, we've have learned that a little TLC on your brand might be what you really need. So if you’ve felt your business dip in recent months, maybe it’s time to take a look to see if a rebranding strategy is what you need.

Here are some indicators that might show you need a rebrand:

  1. Are you getting fewer leads than in the past?

  2. Are you entering a new market?

  3. Are you introducing new services?

  4. Has your business growth slowed or even stopped?

  5. Are there new competitors in your marketplace?

  6. Does your visual brand look tired compared to your competition?

  7. Do you struggle to identify your “unique” factor?

  8. Are you missing out on higher-paying jobs that you used to get easily?

  9. Has your business changed since the last time you adjusted your brand?

  10. Are you struggling to attract top talent to work alongside you?

  11. Have your customers changed significantly?

  12. Are you trying to figure out how to take your business to the next level?

If you answered ‘yes’ to one or more of the above, you might need to refresh your brand. It might sound scary and overwhelming...but don’t dismay! It can actually be a very refreshing and liberating change. Kinda like when you rearrange your living room. All of a sudden it’s fresh and alive, and you go out of your way to peek inside.

So now you're thinking "ok, maybe I do need a rebrand... but it sounds like a lot of work"!

But don't worry friend, because rebranding doesn’t mean that you have to start over from scratch, it is actually WAY easier than what you might’ve originally thought.

Sometimes we think that if things aren’t going the way we planned, we might just need to hit the “Redo” button. But maybe all your brand really needs is a little refresh. Increasing value doesn’t always mean recreating the wheel. Sometimes it is about tailoring what you currently have so that it goes from reaching good clients to reaching your ideal clients.

Here are three areas to start honing in on:

Look at your customer...
You gotta know who your people are. Creating an avatar is a VERY important step in the branding process. If you haven’t done so already, now is a great time to pull out our Brandstorm Workbook and decide who it is you’re trying to target. If your business is primarily for women entrepreneurs, your branding should be appealing and attractive to them.

Let me let you in on a little secret...as a graphic designer, I love it when people give me adjectives to describe their business or the image they are trying to convey. Is it fun and flirty? Is is sophisticated and formal? Are you upscale? Are you earthy? Are you alternative and dark? All these words help a designer (and anyone else for that matter) determine if you’re hitting the mark on what you’re trying to convey.

What are 3-5 adjectives that describe your ideal customer? Compare those adjectives with what you currently have for logo, image, website, message. Do they align? If not, a refresh might be in order.

Look at your messaging...
Sometimes we’re so in the forest, that we can’t see the trees. Ask some friends, what do you think of when you hear my business name? Is my website easy to read and navigate? Is it obvious who might be interested in my product or service? What does my logo say about my business? What does my photography convey?

Perhaps what you need to tweak is messaging...finding a friend or colleague who can look at your business with fresh eyes might give you a real insight into what’s not clicking. Or, better yet, hiring a professional copywriter can help take lackluster copy and make it lively!

If your messaging isn’t on point, you might need a little refresh.

Look at your brand assets…
Finally, your brand is A LOT more than your logo. It is everything that people think of when they think of you.

BUT, your brand includes your logo and other brand assets.

Major brands have changed or tweaked their logos over the years...everyone from Coca Cola to Apple. So, don’t be afraid to change something. You can ask yourself if your logo reflects your vision, and what sort of tone does it convey for your branding? Do you have the necessary variations to promote your business over various mediums?

We gave you a lot to think about in this blog! A refresh on your branding can seem overwhelming, but there is a lot you can do to tweak it so that it starts to hit all the right notes instead of falling flat!
